Art

At Yeading Infant and Nursery School, all the children participate in Art and Design through a range of activities. They are encouraged to use a various materials, tools and techniques to represent in visual form what they observe and imagine.  They will use a range of resources such as, paints, pastels, charcoal, clay, wax, wool, thread, pattern, texture and light.  Children are encouraged to observe objects and environments closely and talk about and modify their work.  The children are taught to recognise, appreciate and compare famous works of art and to make connections between their work and that of other artists.

In the summer term, we participate in a whole school project called ‘Take One Picture Project’. We use a picture chosen by the National Art Gallery and children have the opportunity to carry out activities covering all the curriculum areas. All the year groups produce various art work and written work around this one picture, which shows progression right from nursery to year 2. This is then celebrated with the parents/Carers who come in and look at the art gallery created by the children at the end of the summer term.

In addition to this, the school also runs an after school club for children to participate in extracurricular art activities. Children can request activities of their choice or participate in activities set by the Art leader.

We also have a resident artist named Stephen Bruce who comes into school and works with the children to develop new thinking, ideas and skills. This encourages children to be excited about art and engages them into deep level learning.
